Current 6th and 7th Grade Scheduling for 2018-19

Ms. Herd is visiting the 6th grade classes on 4/11 and the 7th grade classes on 4/12 to discuss Scheduling for next year.  She will be sending home a Course Selection Form with your child that is due in the office NO LATER than April 20th. Course Descriptions and the Course Selection Form can be found on the website under the "Academics" tab.  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Ms. Herd at herdkerr@dhsd7.net.

Advanced Classes for the 2018-19 School Year

Current 6th and 7th grade students are invited to take the Accelerated Math placement test and the English Language Arts Advanced placement test.  The Math test will be after school on April 17th or 18th in the Library.  Your child only needs to attend on one of those days.  The test should take about an hour.  The ELA test will be after school on April 24th OR 25th in the Library.  Again, your child only needs to attend one of those days.  It too should take approximately an hour.  Teachers will be looking at multiple factors when determining if your child is a good fit for these courses.  In addition to their score on the Advanced Placement test/s, student grades, NWEA scores, Teacher Recommendations, and Behavior are all other factors which will contribute to their placement.

M-STEP Testing 2018 - Important Testing Dates

O. W. Best parents and students, please be aware that M-STEP testing begins immediately following spring break. Similar to last year, students will be testing in the classrooms with their subject area teachers using chromebooks. It is extremely important that your child attends school and arrives on time on the days that he or she is testing. Teachers are working very hard to prepare students for these assessments. If a student is absent during an assessment, some of the required test components are difficult to make up.

The ELA portion of the M-STEP requires students to use headphones during the test. If your student has a pair of headphones, please remind them to bring them to school on the days they are ELA M-STEP testing.

Help our students to do their very best on this test by making sure they get a good night sleep and eat a healthy breakfast!!

Information for 6th Grade Parents & Students for the 2018-19 School Year

The counselors at Best and Pardee teachers have been preparing your students for middle school throughout the school year.  During the Counselors visit to your child's classroom at Pardee, a handout was discussed and sent home with every student.  Please click HERE for the handout.  Included in the handout is the date for the 6th grade Orientation.  Please add Wednesday, August 29th at 6:00 p.m. to your calendar.  We look forward to working with you and your child next year!

Talk Early & Talk Often Workshop
a nationally recognized parent education program aimed at helping parents of middle and high school youth talk with their child about abstinence and sexuality. The two-hour workshop can be offered to parents in the school, community, healthcare or church setting. The workshop is free but registration is required.  For more information please visit http://www.parentactionforhealthykids.org/workshops/

Student Drop Off

Please use the right lane to quickly drop off your child.  Please do not park and wait for the bell to ring to let your child out of the car.  The left lane is the pass through lane.  Do not use this lane to drop off your child.  This will keep traffic flowing and will be safer for your child.

Reporting Absences
Please call 313-203-0341 if you child will need to miss school.
Counselor Appointments

Ms. Herd and Mrs. Stubbs are available to meet with you regarding any academic, social, or emotional concerns with your child.  It is recommended that you call or email your child's counselor to set up an appointment to see them. Often the counselors have their day scheduled or have other situations that arise during the day and are not available to give you their full attention when you stop in without an appointment.  The counselors want to be sure to devote time to you and your child, so having an appointment scheduled ahead of time will allow them to free up time for you as well as gather any information from teachers to help during your appointment.  Please contact Ms. Herd at (313) 203-3198 or herdkerr@dhsd7.net if you child's last name begins with the letters A-J or contact Mrs. Stubbs at (313) 203-3199  or stubbsan@dhsd7.net  if you child's last name begins with the letters K-Z .  The counselors look forward to working with you and your child throughout the school year.
