M-STEP Testing 2017 - Important Testing Dates
O. W. Best parents and students, please be aware that M-STEP state testing begins immediately following spring break. This year, students will be testing in the classrooms with their subject area teachers using the new chromebooks. It is extremely important that your child attends school and arrives on time the days that he or she is testing. Teachers are working very hard to prepare students for these assessments. If a student is absent during an assessment, some of the required test components are difficult to make up.
Please help our students do their very best on this test by making sure they get a good night sleep and eat a healthy breakfast before testing!!

6th and 7th Grade Scheduling
Ms. Herd is visiting the 7th grade classes on 3/9, and the 6th grade classes on 3/10 to discuss scheduling for the 2017-18 school year. Your child should bring home a Course Selection form provided by Ms. Herd that needs to be completed with you. Course Descriptions and this Course Selection form can also be found on the website under "Academics" and then "Course Selection." Once completed, Course Selection forms are due in the office no later than 3/17. There are boxes on the main office counter labeled by grade where you child can drop off their completed forms. Late forms will not be accepted.
Attention 8th Grade Parents: Educational Development Plans
8th Grade students have been working on their Educational Development Plan (E.D.P.) and other Career related activities with Ms. Herd. We would like parents to take some time to review their child's E.D.P. along with their Career and Educational Goals that can all be found on www.careercruising.com. Your child was given a letter to bring home which has an activation code for you to login and create a parent account so you can access this information. Students will continue to work on their E.D.P. throughout high school so now is a good time to see what plans your child has for their future education and to start having conversations about their future together.
Ms. Herd and Mrs. Stubbs are available to meet with you regarding any academic, social, or emotional concerns with your child. It is recommended that you call or email your child's counselor to set up an appointment to see them. Often the counselors have their day scheduled or have other situations that arise during the day and are not available to give you their full attention when you stop in without an appointment. The counselors want to be sure to devote time to you and your child, so having an appointment scheduled ahead of time will allow them to free up time for you as well as gather any information from teachers to help during your appointment. Please contact Ms. Herd at (313) 203-3198 or firstname.lastname@example.org if you child's last name begins with the letters A-K or contact Mrs. Stubbs at (313) 203-3199
or email@example.com if you child's last name begins with the letters L-Z . The counselors look forward to working with you and your child throughout the school year.
